Lauren Goodell on Sustainable Founder-Led Sales

Listen on Apple or Spotify

Hi Reader,

Notes from a Female Founder

A company doesn’t shut down because a founder took a day off. It shuts down because the founder burned out. I know burnout. It’s tough. We've all hit a wall. But true burnout can masquerade as amplified perfectionism, depression and anxiety, and it rarely looks like what we expect. It creeps in disguised as pushing harder, doing more, holding it together for everyone else. Watch for it in yourself and in your team, and make changes to prevent it. For more on this, see the LinkedIn post I mention below.

Three things to tune up sales at your company this week:

1. Listen to some discovery calls. What feedback will you give your sales leader to help the team?

2. Post some high-value content that means something to you on LinkedIn. Ask your team to comment. See what kind of conversation you can start. Need inspiration? Look at a few of my posts or Samantha McKenna’s.

3. Build in short rest periods (Three or more) throughout your day for a week and see how much difference it makes. Rest, that means no screens of any kind. Rest. Close your eyes, take a walk, sing a song. Not kidding, do it.

This week’s conversation

Lauren Goodell left a top 1 percent sales career at Microsoft and Salesforce to launch Zinnia while caring for a mother with stage-four cancer, a father with Parkinson's, and her own chronic illness. She ran over 300 customer discovery conversations before building the product, that process led to a full pivot toward a stronger opportunity. She grew her early pipeline through personal LinkedIn posts alone. No paid marketing needed.

"There's a lot of power in saying what you're actually going through and being able to be vulnerable."

- Lauren Goodell

Since we recorded this conversation, Lauren made the call to close Zinnia. We're still sharing it, because the founder journey isn't just the wins. It's what you do with what you learn. Take a look at her feed on LinkedIn to learn more.

On LinkedIn this week

I got real this week about what constant availability actually costs female founders, mentally, physically, at work and at home.
